In Loving Memory of Clyde Smith

It is with profound sadness and immense love that we announce the peaceful passing of

our father, Clyde Smith, on August 23, 2026, at 2:45 a.m., surrounded by his

family.

Born December 28, 1953, in Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, Clyde was the

beloved son of the late Ada and Herbert Smith.

A man of integrity, strength, and kindness, always ready to lend a helping hand to

family, friends, and even strangers. His magnetic personality and easygoing nature

made it easy for him to strike up a conversation with anyone. He had genuine

attentiveness that made people feel comfortable in his company.

His love of the outdoors began as a teenager when he started his fishing career and

learned the ropes and every corner of Lockyers Bay from his beloved father. He fished

for 25 years before working as an outfitter guide where he formed lifelong friendships

and made countless cherished memories.

A true woodsman, Clyde was happiest “on the country,” surrounded by nature. In later

years his passion for wildlife became less about hunting and more about observing and

befriending the animals around him.

Clyde also had a keen eye and a curious mind. He loved antiques, often taking road

trips to antique shops in search of unique treasures. He enjoyed researching his finds

and discovering the history and stories behind them. More recently, he taught himself to

play the guitar, becoming quite impressive and able to carry a tune with the best of

them.

Above all, Clyde fiercely loved his family, and they fiercely loved him. His stories,

laughter, kindness, and quiet ways of caring for those around him will remain cherished

by all who knew him.

Clyde leaves to mourn his loving family:

Daughters: Lorraine (Alex) and Renée (Gerry)

Son: Matt (Tonya)

Partner: Linda

Linda’s son: Darrell (Sandi)

Linda’s daughter: Kerri

Grandchildren: Shailene, Dylan, Tyson, Bryanna, AJ, Jade, Ian, Brady, Kyle, Eric, Gabriel,

and Elijah.

Great-grandchildren: Jaxton, Jazzlyn, Jeremiah, Jolene, Xavier, and Theo. 

Brothers: Lawrence (Marilyn) ; Herb ( Janine) , Russ ( Shirley).

Predeceased by:Sister Lorraine, Brothers Edward, John and Blair.

He also leaves to mourn many close friends and extended family members,

including his beloved aunts Jane, Lydia, and Nellie, and the many cousins he loved

dearly.

Clyde will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Private visitation for family will take place at the Salvation Army Citadel in Hare

Bay at 11:30 a.m. August 27, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m.Thursday, August 27.

Rest peacefully, Dad.
