Elsie Frances
Kelly
Sep 27, 1941 — Jan 9, 2024
Gambo
Passed peacefully away at the HSC with her family by her side after a short illness on January 9, 2024,
Elsie Frances Kelly of Gambo. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Johnny, parents Danny and
Mulliadh, her parents- in-law Joseph and Claire, her sister Theresa, her infant son Ian, grandson William,
her brothers-in-law Vince, Pat, and Sterling and sister-in-law Regina. Leaving to mourn are her four
devoted children, Michelle (Ken), Neil (Sherry), Peter and Leslie (David). Cherished grandchildren
Thomas, Catherine, Erin, Laura, Leah and Rebecca. Also leaving to mourn her many brothers, sisters, and
in-laws, Mike and Melina, Kelly and Bob, Bunty and Jackie, Patsy, Danny and Geraldine, Heather and
Ted, Cameron and Cheryl, Catriona and Lloyd, Fiona and Doug, Elizabeth and Brian and Ewan and Cindy,
as well as her brother-in-law Charlie and wife Gaye. Elsie will be especially missed by her lifetime friends
Jacqueline, Patsy, Mary, Lizzie and Tommy. She also leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews as well
as other family members and friends throughout Gambo, across the Island, and on the mainland. Elsie
was born in Scotland and although she moved to Newfoundland as a young girl with her family, her
heart stayed in the Highlands for the remainder of her life. She was so proud of her heritage, returning
several times with family members and proudly flying the Scottish flag on her home. A former teacher,
group home counsellor and student assistant, her greatest role was that of being a loving and devoted
Mother to her four children, for which she will be remembered most of all. Elsie was a wonderful host,
the first to put the kettle on to share a cup of tea with any and all who visited and she loved it when
family and friends stopped by for a chat. She was a huge fan of British television, recording programs
such as 'Escape To The Country', 'Ballykissangel' and 'Doc Martin' which she would watch with delight
while sipping on her beloved cup of tea. Elsie also loved music, especially Irish-Newfoundland tunes, and
no Sunday morning was complete unless 'Jigs & Reels' was playing in the background while she took
calls from family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would
like to extend a special thank you to the nursing and medical staff at 4 South A & B and 4 North B for the
exemplary care they provided to Elsie during her final days.
To be kind to all, to like many and love a few, to be needed and wanted by those we love, is certainly
the nearest we can come to happiness; - Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots
