Passed peacefully away on Sunday Sept 5, 2021, at JPM Hospital, Gander, with her loving husband of 44 years by her side.

Predeceased by her father, Raymond, Mother Mary (Granter), brothers, Samuel, Roland, Robert, Roy, and sister Annie.

Leaving to mourn, husband Brian; sons Daryl (Sue Ann) and Jeffery (LeeAnne). Grandchildren, Bradley, Mitchell, Joshua and Bryce. Also a circle of family and friends.

Evelyn was born and raised in Gambo NL., and attended the one room school there until at the age of 15, she was diagnosed with TB. She spent the next three and one-half years at the sanitorium in Corner Brook "the SAN". She fought the disease with courage, grace and dignity, three qualities that would define her life. On release from "the SAN" she continued her education in St. John's and Gander, finishing high school, and collecting diplomas in advanced sewing, fashion design, cake decorating and food production methods. She quickly became an "in-demand" seamstress with a client list that included EPA, the RCMP, the Canadian Forces and several hotels and department stores in Gander. For most of her life those highly honed skills with the sewing machine, crochet hooks, knitting needles and cake decorating tools, enabled her to teach classes at home, an activity she enjoyed all of her life.

In 1974 Evelyn met and married her husband Brian who was in the Navy. The next 22 years saw them posted to Ottawa (X2) back to Gander (X2) and out to Masset, BC in the Queen Charlotte Islands; and finally in 1994 their final posting to Washington, DC. In 1996 Evelyn and Brian returned to Rockland, ON, and lived there for the next 24 years. This phase of her life included wintering in Bonita Springs, FL from mid-December to the end of March. In the summertime Evelyn enjoyed RVing, first to NL to visit son, Daryl and family; and then the following year RVing again to BC to see son, Jeffery, and family, an eagerly anticipated trip they continued for many years.

In 2016 Evelyn came down with SEPSIS and faced another tough medical challenge. During the next 75 days in hospital, those qualities of courage, grace and dignity again helped her through the ordeal. After her recovery, plans were made to return to NL. The couple arrived on the 18th of May 2020, the day of their 44th wedding anniversary. The next 14 days in quarantine were spent in the same hotel in which they spent the first night of their honeymoon.

The simplest pleasures in life brought Evelyn much joy. She treasured a quiet evening at home with a new quilt on the rack. She loved digging for clams on the beach in PEI or chasing after Dungeness Crabs at low tide in the Queen Charlottes. Her mouth watered at the prospect of strawberries and cream at any time. With many names on her contact list she joyously corresponded with friends by old fashioned mail.

Most of all Evelyn loved and cherished her family. She was a superb mother for them and instilled strong values in her boys that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
