It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gregory William (Billy) Cashin announce his passing on July 24th, 2025 at James Paton Memorial Hospital. Born on January 24th, 1961 in Gambo; a place he was proud to call home, Billy touched the hearts of many people on his life journey.
Left to mourn his passing are his siblings Trudy (William) Broderick, Jim (Kathy), Philomena (Junior), Jerry (Denise) and Susan (Kevin) Goulding. Also a large circle of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Billy is predeceased by his parents William and Theresa Cashin and brother-in-law Dwight Lane.
Billy was a devoted parishioner and volunteer in his Parish, serving as Chairperson on Parish Council for many years, and his welcoming of various parish priests to the parish community with food and a clean home and church. He was also a member of Gambo Lions Club and Men's Fellowship.
Most notably he was the owner of a small cafe in Gambo, Billy's (Chestnut Tree Cafe) and during the last 12 years he served up many a meal to waiting customers from near and far, friends and family including the tea ladies, the regular ladies group, his church group and his loyal morning customers and crib buddies. Billy will be greatly missed by his family, his community and many friends. His genuine love for family and community was obvious to all. Billy also loved animals, they were God's creatures, great and small.
As per Billy's wishes, cremation has already taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Pritchett's Funeral Home, Gambo.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Gambo on Thursday July 31st, 2025. Father Camillus Ekedobe officiating.
Inurnment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, reception to follow at the Roman Catholic Parish Hall in Gambo.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA
The special years will not return, when we were all together, but with the love within our hearts, you will walk with us forever.
