With great sorrow and broken hearts, we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Loretta (Dorothea) Mary Slaney (née Broderick), 89, of Gambo, who passed peacefully away at St. Patrick's Mercy Home, St. John's, on June 5th, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.

Born December 22nd, 1925, she was the eldest child of Bridget and James Broderick. She is predeceased by her husband, Jack Slaney (2002); her mother, Bridget; her father, James; her son, Cyril; her brothers: Frank, Andrew, Dennis, Junior, Michael, and Tommy; and, her sisters: Kathleen, Helen, and (Sr) Juanita. She leaves to mourn her seven children: Bill (Loretta), Ron (Dorothy), Kevin (Mary), Jimmy (Barbara), Lorraine (Tony), Harold (Claudette), and Geraldine (Rex); 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Geraldine and Mary; and, three brothers: Bill, Harry, and Patrick.

Resting at Pritchett's Funeral Home in Gambo. Visitation will be Sunday from 2pm-9pm and Monday from 10am-9pm, followed by the funeral on Tuesday at 2pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Internment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery.
