In Loving Memory of Patricia May Hughes
January 15, 1943 – August 23, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for her life that we announce the peaceful passing of Patricia Hughes on August 23, 2025, at home with her family by her side.
Born on January 15, 1943, Patricia lived a rich and loving life. She called many places home throughout the years, spending much of her life in Labrador before retiring to her beloved hometown of Gambo, Newfoundland and Labrador with her husband and lifelong companion, Nathaniel Hughes. Married for 60 beautiful years, Patricia and Nathaniel built a family rooted in love, laughter, and togetherness.
Patricia was the heart of her family — a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose love knew no bounds. She leaves behind her devoted husband Nathaniel; her children Morgan, Dean (Mary), Philip (Paula), Tammy (Paul), and Stephanie (Clyde); her grandchildren Darren, Leon (Robyn), Tyler (Meaghan), Brandon, Andrea (Andrew), Victoria (Kyle), Kylie (Alex), and Max; as well as her cherished great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are her sister Mona (Walter), her sisters- and brothers-in-law, and a loving circle of extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Arminius and Emma Gilbert, and her brother Lloyd Gilbert.
Patricia had a loving and adventurous spirit. She delighted in traveling across Canada to visit her family, and found joy in the simple beauty of long hikes and picnics in the woods. Time at the cabin and the great outdoors brought her peace, but her greatest treasure was always time spent with her family — her pride and joy. Her warmth, laughter, and unwavering love made every gathering memorable, and she made sure everyone felt truly seen and deeply loved.
Patricia also gave back to her community with the same heart she gave to her family. She found joy and purpose in volunteering with the ACW and in the school breakfast program, nurturing her community's children just as she had her own.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Patricia's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honour the remarkable woman she was.
Her life was a gift to all who knew her, and while she may no longer walk among us, her love will live on — in the woods she wandered, in the family she cherished, and in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
