Philip lived a long and full life.

Listening to him tell his stories was a lesson in history and perseverance. In his understated way, he was a wealth of knowledge and wisdom like few others.

Born in England, he lived through the war and the Great Depression. It was there that he was ordained into the ministry and where he met and married his beloved Ruthie. They were joined a few years later by their children, Kevin and Carol.

In 1969 he moved his family to Griquet, Newfoundland. He loved Canada and was extremely patriotic to his new country. He believed Canada was the best country in the world!

Phil and his family lived in many parts of Newfoundland during his time as both a minister, teacher and school principal. He was passionate about, and loved, both his chosen careers. Phil lived to serve others and to mold young minds.

He was beloved by all his parishioners and the many hundreds of small children he taught.

His darling Ruth served by his side until she passed after a long and difficult illness.

Phil was blessed to meet the second love of his life, Marilyn, in Gambo. They too moved together to many parts of the island as he continued his life in the ministry. Truly devoted to one another, they enjoyed a long and happy life together.

He was a wonderful father who deeply loved his children. He loved all children, but little girls lit him up. One of his greatest joys was the birth of Emma, Kevin's daughter.

Phil's final address on earth was at Lakeside Homes in Gander. There he was surrounded by loving people who doted on him. The family is deeply grateful to all the wonderful staff who cared for him like family.

Although he will be deeply missed, Philip Brewer's life is one to be celebrated.
