Sidney Layden passed peacefully away in the presence of his family on June 28, 2020 at the age of 83 years. He was born to parents Wallace and Florence Layden in Lewisporte on July 1, 1936.
Sidney will be sadly missed by Irene, his wife of 59 years, and daughter June (Marilyn Thompson). He is also survived by his brother Abner (Fay) Layden; sisters Jane (Stanley d.) Prosper, Effie (Albert) Churchill, and Alma (Lewis d.), Tapp; and sister-in-law Rita Layden. He is remembered by special nephews Lawrance Layden, Oliver Luff, and Kent Parsons and well as a large extended family of nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. He will also be missed by his many friends at the Salvation Army Gambo Corps.
He was predeceased by his brother Gordon (Rita); sisters Lillian (Fred d.) Osborne, Isabell (Lloyd d.) Luff, Maude (Jack d.) Tapp, Gertie (Jelicoe d.) Barrett; and brother-in-law Lloyd (Hazel d.) Parsons.
A special thank you to the staff of James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander who cared for Sidney through the last months of his life and the support they gave his family. Our sincerest gratitude for being accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private visitation and family funeral will be held on Wednesday July 1 st from the Salvation Army Citadel with interment at the Salvation Army Cemetery in Gambo.
Donations may be made to the Newfoundland and Labrador Hemophilia Association or a charity of one's choice. Flowers gratefully accepted.
