Wayne
Wilkins
Aug 28, 1952 — Jan 20, 2026
Gambo
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Wayne Wilkins (age 73) on January 20th, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Predeceased by his loving parents, Russell and Amanda Wilkins; parents-in-law, Baxter and Elizabeth Collins; sisters-in-law, Myrtle and Mae Wilkins; brother-in-law, Hilary Arnold; and nephew, Dale Wilkins.
Wayne's greatest joy was his extensive family, including his devoted wife of 48 years, Trudy; his 13 siblings and their spouses; 2 children, Michael (Neevee), Suzanne (Clayton) and 4 treasured grandchildren, Leah, William, Cameron and Grayson.
Wayne was born on August 28th, 1952, in Gander. He spent most of his childhood in Benton, surrounded by the constant motion, noise and love that only a family that size could create. He married Trudy, the love of his life, on August 27th, 1977.
Wayne was a proud Newfoundlander through and through, happiest close to home, surrounded by familiar roads, fresh air and the people he loved most. A dump truck driver by trade, he worked hard everyday and took great pride in earning an honest living. No matter how long the day or how demanding the job, he always made time for what mattered most - his family.
He is known for his fun-loving nature and easy laugh. He brought warmth and humour wherever he went. He had a remarkable ability to fix just about anything and took pride in his dirt bikes, snowmobiles, cars - anything with an engine. Whether he was working on something in the garage or enjoying the outdoors, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Above all else, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He showed that love is found in the everyday, in showing up, listening and quietly caring for family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, deeply devoted to his wife and took great pleasure in the life they shared and the time they spent together.
We grieve not only the man he was, but the moments still to come - the conversations, laughter, and memories we wish we could make. Yet, we find comfort in the memories we shared and the laughter that echoes in our hearts. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the medical staff at the Health Sciences Center for their professionalism and genuine concern during the difficult time.
Cremation has taken place, and the visitation will be held at Pritchett's Funeral Home in Gambo, on Saturday, January 24th, from 3-9 pm and Sunday, January 25th, from 2- 5 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will take place at Saint George's Anglican Church in Gambo, on Monday, January 26th at 2 pm, with interment to follow at the Anglican Church Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to join us for a luncheon immediately following the service at the Gambo Lions Club, as we come together in remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Care Foundation in memory of Wayne.
